I Vlog Wii Zumba (Warning to me: this is embarrassing)

Hey friends,

So, I have been hearing a lot about Zumba lately, and I have really been wanting to try it. Unfortunately I have not been able to find any classes near me that seem to fit with my budget/schedule, so I opted for the next best thing: Zumba for Wii! There has been a lot of buzz about it, and I have been looking for something fun to do on days when I can't get to Flywheel for Barre or Spin, or my prison-gym for regular workouts or swimming (more on my workout schedule coming soon), and I picked this up. I will review it, but I made you a video as well, lest you are worried about trying it. This video is ridiculous and I can't believe I'm putting it on the internet, but well, I am. I'm sorry about the sound - if you turn up your volume, you should be able to hear the music. The video displays the first song and a half.

Disclaimer: A few things you should know about me before you see this:
  • I am not coordinated. Never have been, probably never will be. Also, I look a little bit like a monkey when I dance. I am okay with it.
  • I do not take myself very seriously.

If you watched that, I hope you were laughing with me, and not at me. And maybe it helps give you an idea of how fun it is!

An after video:

And my review:

All in a all, I would give it, from a first-timer's experience, an A-/B+. It was definitely fun, and I definitely got warm and even was sweating, but I cannot see this being the sole form of exercise and actually making a difference. Only time will tell on that point of course. For 20 minutes, it was fun, the time passed quickly, and I was definitely moving. Of Wii Fit, Wii Active and Wii Zumba, it is definitely the most fun in a silly way and I will definitely do it again. If you are on the fence, I would say go for it.

I hope this helps!

Do you Wii Zumba? Are you on the fence? What are YOUR favorite Wii Workout games? Would you post a ridiculous video like the first one on the internet :)?

  1. OK, so I love this post! Kudos to you for bravely vlogging your dance moves! I know that following along in a class is hard and I'm sure I look just as silly from an outsider looking in when I go. I think the classes I went to ran for a full hour though and they were a killer workout...are there more intense workouts in the "game"? I def kinda wanna try it now!

  2. AMAZING. I want this even more now, as I think that looks like something I would enjoy doing AND something my little one would enjoy doing along with me once he can stand and shake what I gave him (haha, did you like how I changed "shake what your momma gave you" up a little bit?)

  4. @theartsybutterfly - there are definitely more intense workouts but it makes you build up (probably so you don't hurt yourself lol)

@Jenna - that's hilarious, and I bet you would have so much fun with him with this!

    @Kelsey - thanks :) WAS so fun!

  5. Ha! That looked like fun! Kind of like something I would do with a girlfriend, and see who could do the moves most ridiculous/exaggerated - too bad we don't have a Wii! I'll just have to settle for eating a cookie while watching you do Zumba! ;)

  6. First of all, at the risk of making your husband jealous, I will say that you look great! You seem really committed to maintaining a healthy lifestyle which is pretty commendable when it's so much easier to not do that. I got a Kinect (like Wii for the Xbox system) recently but I have not had the motivation to get any of the exercise games and I refuse to purchase the dance games despite their catchy commercials featuring Kim Kardashian. For now, my exercise will stay at the gym, or more realistically, in the part of my mind devoted to wishful thinking.

  7. @Adam !!!!!!!!!!! hey! You got a kinect? But can we still create characters that somewhat resemble ourselves? I saw Mickey your Mii and she thought your mustache was becoming. Thanks for stopping by friend and thanks :)

  10. This is the best post I've seen all week! I'm glad you don't take yourself too seriously :)

(I followed you over from weddingbee. As another Jewish lady, I loved reading your posts!)

  11. I love that you posted this!!! You did a great job for your first time ever! I purchased the Zumba for Playstation Move and only made it through 13 mins my first time LOL. Now it's a lot easier and the coordination is slowly coming. I also learned that the belt stays where it's supposed to when you put the part with the controller in the middle and not on one hip--DUH!!! :-)
